How Does the Resurrection of Jesus Apply to Our Lives Today?

I avoided it for a long time. I cringed every time I thought about it because I knew it would crush me, but I had to do it. So I did. I made myself watch The Passion of the Christ. If it had not been for the resurrection of Jesus at the end, I don’t know if I would have ever mentally recovered.

You probaby think I’m being dramatic but I’m serious! I love Jesus so deeply that the thought of him being beaten, mocked and crucified makes me feel physically sick. I knew that seeing it would be agonizing. But I had to see what he did for me because after all it was MY sin that put him on the cross.

I can’t explain it but thinking about Resurrection Day over the past few weeks has weighed heavily on me. I feel so much more connected to it this year. The sacrifice that was made for us is truly mind boggling. From start to finish it’s riveting, a story like no other but it’s more than that for me, it’s my lifeline-where my life with Jesus began.

A Beautiful Example of Surrender

The story of the cross while heartbreaking, is also beautiful because it proved once and for all just how much God loves us. Can you imagine sending your child as a ransom for the sins of other people?

Romans 5:8 “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.”

God had a plan but none of it would have been possible without the surrender of Jesus. Something that baffles me every time I read about the journey to Calvary is that no matter what was said or done to him, Jesus never retaliated. He knew what he came to the earth to do and nothing was going to stop him.

Let’s Think About This

The crowd that had just been cheering “Hosanna!” a few days before was now chanting “Crucify him!”. The lashes on his back, the crown of thorns on his head and knowing that he would be nailed to a cross, none of that detered him.

He surrendered his life willingly for mine and for yours. His mission was fulfilled. It’s something I don’t think I’ll ever be able to comprehend. His selfless love. I’ll never get over it.

Jesus surrenders to the guards and is whipped
Isaiah 53:5 “He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our sins; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, by his stripes we are healed.”

Contemplating his holiness, I shrink back in regret thinking of all the times I’ve lashed out at people. Justified or not, nothing I’ve ever been through compares to the torture Jesus endured, yet he remained quiet. He stayed the course because doing God’s will was all that mattered to him.

He came to die and to rise up out of the grave with the keys of death and hell in his hands and that’s exactly what he did! PRAISE THE LORD!

We’re able to take part in his victory because the resurrection of Jesus is our resurrection, too! Without him we’re dead to sin but when we repent and accept him, he forgives us and we’re born again! He fills us with his Spirit and that gives us the power we need to resist the devil and live for him.

What Jesus Did Changed Everything For Me

I’m not exxaggerating when I say that the person I was before God changed me was UGLY. Thinking about the things I did in the past breaks my heart into a million pieces. Would I change it if I could go back? Not if changing it would change who I am today because God’s using my resurrection story to lead the lost to him.

My past is proof that when we receive God’s grace through faith, we get a brand new start. Though our sins are scarlet, he washes them white as snow. (Isaiah 1:18)

I don’t have bullet points or a long explanation for this post. The answer is simple, it’s JESUS! It doesn’t matter what you’ve done or what you’re going through, Jesus is the answer! His sacrifice paved the way for us to have eternal life in heaven and an abundant life on earth.

When we say ‘yes’ to Jesus, every promise becomes ours. There’s no fine print that says, “The promises in the bible applies to everyone but you”. You haven’t gone too far or done too much. The cross covers it all.

Please Hear Me

Sweet friend, if you don’t know Jesus as your personal lord and savior, what are you waiting for? It’s the most important decision you’ll ever make. Ask him into your heart and decide today that you’ll follow him forever.

He’ll never leave you or forsake you. He’ll fight for you and will love you like you’ve never been loved before. He’s saying, “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in…” (Rev 3:20)

The next time you think about the story of Easter and the stone being rolled away, remember that Jesus came out of the tomb with the keys to set you free!

HALLELUJAH! He is RISEN!

Romans 6:4-5 “We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.”

Crazy, selfless, love…I really can’t fathom it. And this is why I love Him, because He first loved me this much.

Wishing you and your family a very blessed Easter, Polly. Thank you for your beautiful article. Easter is the one holiday I can celebrate fully since losing Paul. It’s the reason I can find joy and peace. It’s the reason I can wake up every morning and face the new day. It’s the reason I can still laugh and have enjoyment in this life. It’s the reason I can breathe. All praise and thanksgiving to Jesus, our Savior.

It hurts me when you mention your “before”. You didn’t rob banks, you didn’t physically hurt anyone. However you were choosing paths that never really made you happy. Your mother wanted so badly for you to be happy when you were younger. She knew you had to like yourself first. You wanted the same life as others around you, so you searched, falling along the way. God wanted to bring you to a place where you would be happy with you. You found it, right out in the open….waiting for you. Be proud, Polly. 💜

Like you before, I have never watched The Passion. My reasons vary but at this point and time in my life I do not intend to. I feel even with seeing His resurrection I would truly be scarred by what I would see on the screen. (By the way I don’t watch war movies either. I literally get depressed.) Having said that, your eloquence in expressing God’s love for us is riveting! If I were a person trying to decide what to do or believe, after reading your blog I know I would give my life to Christ! Thank you for those who are wavering!

Wonderfully said, Polly! My life would be such a mess without God in my life and this is a reminder of what He sacrificed for me. I watched The Passion of Christ up to the crucifixion, I couldn’t watch Him suffer. Truly incredible what He endured for us. Thank you for your wonder words, you truly have a gift.

How does Jesus ‘ resurrection affect our daily lives ? How do we incorporate its value? Today is Easter Sunday and this day marks the commemoration of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, three days after dying on the cross to redeem us from our sins.
