I’ve been thinking and praying so much lately about revival. Watching the wildfires burn, seeing the aftermath of the hurricanes and remembering the families that lost loved ones in the Las Vegas massacre have my heart in a place of intercession, an outcry for the Spirit of God to flood the earth. Through the years, we’ve heard about the great revivals of the past. Whether it be in a tent or on the streets, God has always been faithful to answer the cry of his people.
He has a plan! It’s key for us to trust it-even when it doesn’t look the way we think it should. Over and over recently, I’ve been brought back to this scripture in the second chapter of Mark, when Jesus said, “And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. For the wine would burst the wineskins, and the wine and the skins would both be lost. New wine calls for new wineskins.”(22) I think it fits here.
New. God is all about fresh and new. My personal favorite ‘new’ scripture is the one that talks about us! 2 Corinthians 5:17,” Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old things have passed away; behold, new things have come.” Hallelujah! But check this out. Isaiah 43:18-19, “Do not call to mind the former things, Or ponder things of the past. Behold, I will do something new, Now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? I will even make a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
GOD IS FAITHFUL
He makes us new, and has plans to do new things through us. He knows the needs of each generation and he also knows how much time is left. Could revival be happening now? What if it’s being birthed in the center of what looks like on the outside, to be the enemy wreaking havoc on the earth? I know, it sounds crazy, but stick with me…
What if God knew all along of these tragedies but had a plan in place to ‘make a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland’, using us, using our pain? He promises to make all things work together for the good of those that love him(Rom 8:28), he promises to bring beauty from ashes(Is 61:3) and that he won’t allow pain without causing something new to be born(Is 66:9). He is faithful to his promises!
When I pray over these situations, I can see thousands at a time turning to God in their hour of desperation. Thousands being renewed, restored, revived. In my book, that’s revival! Imagine the impact of the testimonies! The ones that lost everything in a matter of hours, the ones that were left standing when the dust settled in Las Vegas but were rescued from their hopelessness by The Man in White!
Testimonies of stories like yours!
We pray for revival but are we willing to allow our suffering to be a part of God’s plan for it? If we will partner with him, I believe we will see a harvest of souls like no other! It doesn’t require a stage or a microphone, only a heart that’s surrendered to God and trusts that because his thoughts and ways are higher(Is 55), he will make a way in the wilderness. That way is JESUS.
God’s focus is on the eternal. His desire is that no one would perish but that all would come to repentance(2 Pet 3:9).
He wants to use us. Will you trust him with your life and your pain? Will you allow him to birth something new in you that could help bring revival in the earth? It’s my prayer that you will say, ‘yes’, that you will take God’s hand and let him show you the glory on the other side of your story.
